This new build, four story house will provide much needed family accommodation for the carers of a conservation farm in north Norfolk.
The house has been designed to minimise energy consumption via a super insulated external envelope, heat recovery ventilation system and under floor heating. Its ground source heat pump and solar panels enable the house to be almost entirely self sufficient - and able to sell energy back to the national grid for much of the year.
The house has been built from all natural and sustainable materials right down to its ‘thermo fleece’ sheep’s wool insulation and locally sourced waney edged timber cladding.
The house and garage comprise 3 masses. The largest contains the open plan living spaces, the slightly smaller block contains the 'service space' such as the utility and bathroom. The smallest building is the mono pitched garage. The 3 built forms have been arranged around a spacious entrance lobby / atrium with a circular skylight as its focal point.
A void over the dining space creates a special place for the family to get together for meal times. Chandeliers created from old broom handles create a spectacular light show at night time.
The farm is dedicated to conservation, and to preserving the natural habitats of local wildlife. The new house will also provide a home for some of its insects within a full height hibernaculum wall. The wall is currently being installed with its new inhabitants soon to be introduced to their new home.

Burnham Way is a 1930’s family house in West London. The project involved replacing the existing rear extension and replacing it to provide a new large family kitchen and a separate living space. The garage along the side of the house was converted into a utility and office space.
The lighting design pulls the eye through the family living spaces and into the garden. From the pendant light fittings which illuminate a bespoke kitchen island / dining table, through the glazed Crittall partition doors to the arched glazed doors which back on to the garden.
Bespoke joinery is key to the success of this project. Every inch of the kitchen has been carefully considered for the use that best suits the client, from the plate cubby holes to the mug pin boards.
